In our Domestic Horse workshops you'll be able to get up close and personal with the horses, the cowboys & cowgirls and the gear that they use. We'll also visit several different ranches in the area to photograph a variety of horses including a 1/2 day with foals.
Our workshops are very different from other workshops because we actually help you learn to use your camera, the different settings on it and a variety of photo techniques. They are designed to hone your photography skills and help you become a better photographer. Most workshops are designed for beginners to advanced intermediate skill levels.
All workshops include photo assignments in the field, talks on technique, learning to use your camera functions correctly, and edit-and-critique sessions. We feel that the most effective way to develop skills is by taking the skills we talk about in class and going out in the field and practicing them until you’re comfortable with them.
We try and personalize each workshop to fit the needs and desires of the individual participants. We limit the number of participants in each workshop so participants have lots of one on one time with the instructor(s) if they want.
We'll meet the evening of Wednesday, May 23rd for a meet and greet session. Please bring along some of your favorite photos to share with the group.
May 24th and 25th we'll be photographing and interacting with the horses as they move about freely, with and without riders, photographing the gear used, and the cowboys/cowgirls. We'll also spend time during both of these days working on techniques, perspectives, composition, shooting, editing, and post production work. Participants will also learn about different ways of seeing and perceiving light. We'll also review and critique your favorite photos from each day.
On Friday, May 25th we'll also have a 1/2 day session with a band of colts.
Saturday, May 26th we'll be in Gardiner, Montana as we photograph the horses and cowboys/cowgirls that are participating in the annual Hell's a-Roarin' Fundraising event (cost included in workshop price). We'll be able to set up in choice locations as they trail their horses to Hell's a-Roarin' headquarters.
